Books galore!

Yes, there will be another post today! I just got the books I ordered right before Christmas, and I just have to share. I LOVE books, and opening this package was ike Christmas all over again. I'll start with the knitting-related books! First of all, I got this:

A Gathering of Lace, by Meg Swansen

I can't believe that I didn't own this one until now, it's just gorgeous. So many gorgeous patterns, and a lot of info as well. I'll take this one to bed tonight :)

The second knitting book I got was this one:

The Mermaid Shawl and other Beauties - Shaws, Cocoons and Waps, By Kathleen Valentine

This one contains a lot of beautiful patterns, but is also very good if you want to learn how to design your own lace patterns. I'll probably make a lot of these shawls too, but possibly not this year :)

I also got three books on spinning, as I couldn't decide which one to choose:

Start Spinning - Everything You Need to Know to Make Great Yarn, by Maggie Casey

Spin to Knit - The Knitter's Guide to Making Yarn, by Shannon Okey

Respect the Spindle - Spin Infinite Yarns with One Amazing Tool, by Abby Franquemont

Now I have no excuses anymore, so this weekend wil probably be dedicated to spinning. I'll have to get the wheel going, but once I read a bit in these books I think I'll be all right.

I also got me some fiction, as I can't seem to get enough of these books either. I ordered six books by Anne Rice:

Blackwood Farm, Blood and Gold, and Blood Canticle.

Lasher, Taltos, and Witching Hour

Anne Rice is one of my guilty pleasures. The books are very emo, and a lot of it is sort of disguised Harlequin-like pr0n, but somehow I don't care. I love the Vampire books, and as I haven't read the last three I figured I would buy them. The ones in the bottom photo is the Mayfair witches trilogy, which I haven't read either. I'll let you know what I think of them when I've read them, if you're interested.

Finally I bought four books that I have read, but I decided I wanted to own them. It's the A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin. This is Fantasy when it's at its best, very much politics and intrigues around the throne in this world. The next part is coming out soon, if it hasn't already, but I'm waiting for it to come out in paperback before I buy it. At least now I have a lot of other books to read while I wait.

I also bought my very first audio book, Road Rage by Joe Hill, Stephen King and Richard Matheson. This is actually two short stories, and I'll listen to them while I knit. I really shoud try this more often, as I often find myself wanting to both knit and read :)

I still have three packages that I'm waiting for, but two are coming from the States, and one is recently ordered, so I think it might take a while. I'll tell you about those when they get here, so you have something to look forward to!

Now I'll do some reading before I go to bed!

Those Martin Books are AMAZING!! Did you know it's supposed to be September of this year for the last book to come out? Have you been waiting forever like us? If martin dies before that book comes out, I will hunt him in to the afterlife! LOL

Jenny, I'm so flattered that you ordered my book and posted a picture of it on your blog! Thank you for your kind words. Actually, the first one you posted, "A Gathering of Lace" is the book that got me started knitting lace! It is my favorite lace book.

And, ironically, I ordered a bunch of books too and among them are "Taltos" and "Blackwood Farm". I've only read a few of Anne Rice's books but I'm looking forward to these.

If you would email me at kathleen at parlezmoipress dot com, I'd be happy to email back the PDFs of some new projects as a thank you.

Happy Knitting,
Kathleen

I've been meaning to read the Anne Rice vampire books for a long time now. Is Interview the first one in the series? I really like vampire stories, and can't believe that I've never read it!

I meant to add I am a big fan of audio books and listen to them while I knit all the time. Right now I am listening to Anne Rice's "Angel Time"
